Focal Therapy

Focal therapy is a newer treatment approach that targets only the cancerous part of the prostate, rather than the whole gland, aiming to reduce side effects such as erectile dysfunction and incontinence. One method is the NanoKnife™, which uses electric currents to destroy cancer cells in a targeted area.

Dr Tony Gianduzzo's practice is focused on the diagnosis and risk-assessment of prostate cancer. Where investigation shows focal therapy may be an appropriate path, he refers patients to A/Prof Troy Gianduzzo, one of the first surgeons in Australia to offer NanoKnife IRE focal therapy. A Note on Focal Therapy

Focal therapy is still a relatively new and experimental approach - long-term success rates are not yet as well established as surgery or radiotherapy, and it isn't widely recommended as a standard first-line treatment. It may cause fewer problems with erections and continence than other treatments, but suitability depends on the size, location, and grade of the cancer. This will be discussed with you in detail as part of your management options.
